GRX SERVICE

Basic information regarding the GRX service:

The GPRS service (acronym of General Packet Radio Service) is a new data service enabling the bidireccional transmission of information through mobile cellular networks (GSM or other TDMA).

Supported on a packet switching system, this service optimizes the spectrum use on the radio interface, enabling a mobile terminal to access data services (ex. Internet) with higher debits than those allowed by the current GSM technology.

 GPRS advantages

Speed: With a theoretical maximum of 171,2 Kbps (using all of the GSM 8 timeslots simultaneously) high gains can be achieved in the data transmission speed.

Spectral eficiency: Through the shared use of radio channels, GPRS allows for a better traffic management and grants service access to a higher number of users per cell.

New applications: As this technology allows an “always connected" philosophy, new services and applications can be developed such as:

Web Browsing: access to the World Wide Web

Email: access to mailboxes without protocol conversions (SMTP <-> SMS)

Remote LAN Access: network access to applications with the same desktop environment

Chat: end of SMS limitations (160 characters)

Audio: Stream audio capability with commercial quality (much higher than Enhanced Full Rate - EFR)

File transfer using FTP, HTTP or other protocols without restrictions.
